For the Stage: 3 note Blues or Jazz 7th Chord Voicings Worth Using
When I’m on stage with BoneDriven or at the jazz gig I like to play tight little chords that leave a little bit of extra space in the sound…
Some of the time I achieve this sound by leaving out the root. I’ll use standard 7th chords and alterations that I play a lot when we do blues stuff as an example…

Here’s an example progression… try it out…
G7 / / / G13 / / / G9 / / / G13 / G7+5 /
C9 / / / C7 / / / G7 / / / G9 / / /
D7 / / / C13 / / / G7 / / / D7+5 / / /
For the D7 and D7+5 chords I would use the same shape as I do for the C chords (in most cases)
I like to use the augmented chords (7+5 – said seven sharp five or just augmented) to get some cool movement from the one to the four of the progression and also for the 5th on the turnaround
I also like to use a 3625 turnaround but not in this lesson.
