Quanta Plus Web Development Environment

July 11th, 2007 Chris Brown Posted in Linux, Technology, Web Development, Work, php No Comments »

I’m testing out Quanta Plus which seems to be the best of the best web dev softwares for linux. So far it’s perfect. The preview window leaves much to be desired… I’d love to see invisible elements in it etc etc. Quanta seems to be like dreamweaver with a really nice code view but a not so hot design view.

I’ve been working on an OSCommerce customization for one of our clients and today I’ve done all of the php work in Quanta without ever wishing I was using something else. So far so good.

Installing Fedora 7 on a Toshiba Laptop (part 4) – Intel 82801G solution for working sound

A little bit of reading and some testing lead me to the fix for my Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller:

modprobe snd-hda-intel model=3stack

All good. Restart and it works.

Installing Fedora 7 on a Toshiba Laptop (part 3) – wifi issues

July 10th, 2007 Chris Brown Posted in Fedora, Linux, OS, Operating System, Technology, Toshiba Laptop, wifi No Comments »

All is going well. I’m writing this from firefox on linux on my laptop. The install went great.

The setup is fine other than my wifi card not working out of the box. Its an Intel 3945ABG. I know exactly what needs to happen to make it work and I’m in the process of doing it now.

As with nearly every linux intall that I’ve done, my sound is not working…. yet… but I’m confident that I will get it working quickly. This is probably the most common desktop linux problem after intsall but not once have I ended up with truly unsupported hardware. I can always seem to get it to work.

I hooked up eth0 and ran yum update. Next I need to get the drivers for my wifi card.

I’ll post again in a little while.
