Fedora 13 (FC13) / Toshiba Laptop: Working headphone jack!

August 23rd, 2010 Chris Brown

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4477

I had previously posted about getting sound to work… the problem was that when you plugged headphones the laptop speakers would still be on and if you muted them the headphones muted… Today I dug around and found a simple solution that really works…

add the follwing line to the bottom of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo

MTGO!

March 2nd, 2010 Chris Brown

black lotusSince I really don’t give a f**k if you think I’m a nerd or not I thought I’d drop a line to say I’ve been enjoying Magic: The Gathering Online. I played when I was a teenager up until about 7 years ago… It’s very fun and nostalgic to play again.

I stumbled on to this today… very cool. It’s Backpacking Lightweight’s page of homemade outdoor gear tutorials.

Everything from packs to tarp tents to compression sacks can be made at home.  If you dig the outdoors, wilderness, survivalism, bushcraft or whatever..  ..then you’ll love this.

Quantum Physics Made Relatively Simple

April 26th, 2009 Chris Brown

Lectures on quantum theory by Hans Bethe. At age 93 he did a series of lectures for his neighbors at the retirement community. For once you can hear from physics expert without having to decode (as much) to layman terms.

Here’s the link:
